Yesterday was my last speaking event for the year. Today’s date? November 10.

Normally I will pack in events until the week before Christmas. I love what I do, speaking and traveling, but I’ve finally concluded that I’m a much better speaker when I speak less, not more.

As I was growing my speaking ministry, I took any opportunity that came along. If you wanted me to pay my own way to get to your church, I would do it. You wanted me to sleep on the couch in your living room with your three cats? Bring it on.

Until I realized I didn’t like speaking anymore.

Well, that wasn’t true. The truth is I was exhausted. I was living by the credo that there is always time to rest, replenish, and renew “later on,” as in,
